About this listen

The Durrell family returns to the island of Corfu, continuing the story begun in My Family and Other Animals. Already an ardent naturalist at the age of 10, the young Gerald lives in an unconventional and disordered household with his mother, sister, and two brothers. Convivial and open, the family plays host to a constant stream of quirky guests. But for Gerald, the main attraction is the wildlife of Corfu.

once more with feeling

Davenport is really great but I wish Hugh Bonneville would redo the full series unabridged.

Great fun

This is a book I listen to when I need cheered up. Fun, harmless, funny and somehow it exudes goodwill.

Light hearted stories of the ever hilarious Durrell Family

I love how the hilarious stories of the family inter mingle with fascinating animal facts. I am almost certain Corfu has made its way to the top of my “places to visit” list based purely on the vivid descriptions and stories of Gerald Durrell. If ever one is looking for a light hearted novel that is sure to make you laugh, this is one for you.

Second of Corfu Trilogy :-)

As good as the first book in this series,
the narrator was brilliant at bringing book 1 to life,
in book 2 he is the icing on the cake.

Thoroughly enjoyed both the story and it’s delivery. Loved the poetry at the conclusion. Lx

Over Familiar... not the fault of the book

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would, if that person enjoyed Gerald Durrell's books

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The affectionate portrait of the times... The fact that I've read it numerous times in my youth made it less attention-grabbing than it should have been.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The dinner with the countess

If this book were a film would you go see it?

I might, but as I go to the cinema so rarely...

Any additional comments?

I loved this series when I was young, but I over-read it, I think.
