About this listen

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

No one knows you like your sister. She can make you laugh or break your heart with a single word. And no one writes novels like Kristin Hannah, an author who vividly explores the intricate bonds of family and, as Tami Hoag said “touches the deepest, most tender corners of our heart.” Now, in her rich, captivating new book, she creates an indelible portrait of two women, once lost to each other, about to come together in a time of exquisite joy and almost unbearable sadness. Sisters by blood, strangers by choice, each stands at a crossroads, ready to confront the betrayals of the past....

BETWEEN SISTERS

Meghann Dontess is a woman haunted by heartbreak. Twenty-five years ago she was forced to make a terrible choice, one that cost her everything, including the love of her sister, Claire. Now, Meghann is a hotshot divorce attorney who doesn’t believe in intimacy - until she meets the one man who can change her mind.

Claire Cavenaugh has fallen in love for the first time in her life. As her wedding day approaches, she prepares to face her harsh, judgmental older sister and their self-absorbed mother. It is the first time they have been together in more than two decades. Over the course of a hot Pacific Northwest summer, these three women who believe they have nothing in common will try to become what they never were: a family.

Tender, funny, bittersweet, and wonderfully moving, Between Sisters celebrates the joys and heartaches that can only be shared by sisters, the mistakes made in the name of love and the healing power of new beginnings - all beautifully told by acclaimed author Kristin Hannah.

Family history how it can shape you

This a story about sisters and how they each experienced growing up, how this shaped their lives for better or worse. Bit of a slow burn to start but definitely gets better.

Story not the same standard as Nightingale

Disappointed picked this after reading Nightingale no where near up to that standard. Won’t pick one by this author again.

Heart felt

Beautiful story. Intriguing. Love the intertwining of the lives with the past coming up to meet the future.

Pretty predictable from the start

A feel good book, not nearly as enjoyable as other Kristen Hannah books I've read. I found the narrator's voice extremely annoying when she was speaking for the child and hard to listen to.
If you want an easy, no think listen, you may enjoy it.

Not my favourite Kristin Hannah title

Liked the story, although it was the first of KH's books I've listened to (and that's a large group!) that was a tad predictable. Great character development though. But yikes, the narrator. Agree with some other reviews - very cringey voice for a child, and some mispronunciations (eg thriving as thwiving) made me do a double-take. Underwhelmed, unfortunately.

Inappropriate Narrator. Predictable story. Major disappointment after just listening to The Women.

My audible library consists of hundreds of books and this is only the second time I have encountered this issue, but for me it makes it completely destroys the authenticity of the story. I am stunned an author of Kirsten Hannah’s calibre allowed it to happen, I cannot be the only listener who had this experience. The readers voice was way too aged to be voicing characters that were 35 and 42. Reader sounded like she was possibly in her mid 60’s at least. It completely messed with presentation and representation of characters. Couple of saucy love scenes narrated by your Grandma!?!? I didn’t know whether I wanted to gag or laugh, any of the spicy conversation was just cringe and gave me the ‘ick’. Would be interested to know if the narrator also voices the characters of Marge Simpson’s sisters, on the Simpsons. At times she was a dead ringer. The kids voice was so bad it was almost comical. I just can’t imagine a group of professional publicists/producers sitting around going ‘yep, she nailed it, let publish that version’. Did anyone actually listen to it. In all an ok story ruined by a completely inappropriate narrator.
