About this listen

A 2017 Nautilus Gold Award winner.

Feel like you don’t belong? You’re not alone. The world has never been more connected, yet people are lonelier than ever. Whether we feel unworthy, alienated, or anxious about our place in the world, the absence of belonging is the great silent wound of our times.

Most people think of belonging as a mythical place, and they spend a lifetime searching for it in vain. But what if belonging isn’t a place at all? What if it’s a skill that has been lost or forgotten?

With her signature depth and eloquence, Toko-pa maps a path to belonging from the inside out. Drawing on myth, stories, and dreams, she takes us into the origins of our estrangement, reframing exile as a necessary initiation into authenticity. Then she shares the competencies of belonging: a set of ancestral practices to heal our wounds and restore true belonging to our lives and to the world.

Just Brilliant and exquisite.

What a gift and gifted soul is Toko-pa. This would be the most beautiful and incredibly awake book I have read. I waited for the audiobook and read by Toko- pa herself, it is a balm and a journey that will take you into those places that need to be held and held they will be. Bravo Toko-pa ! Encore please! ❤️🌹🙏

Very insightful book

I was a little skeptical at first after reading a negative review but I found this a book very beautiful and lyrical. It offers many very well expressed concepts that have the potential to be transformative if put into practice. Read in the author’s own voice, which some may find challenging, I felt her truth and earnest communication of her vision very touching and something to be cherished. I will be listening to this book again.

honest, inspiring, poetic

To have Toko-pa read you her own words was so natural and honest, it felt like I had just spent a couple of days with her. we cooked, sewed and painted together. we laughed and cried and then we said goodbye. I left feeling inspired and loved.

Insightful and touching

Toko pa narrates her brilliant and insightful work in sweet and heartfelt tones. Belonging is a work of tremendous prismatic insight, humanity, wisdom and healing. I strongly recommend this audiobook to anyone who has experienced trauma, alienation or ever struggled to feel part of community or to build meaningful relationships with self or others. An important work, read beautifully by its author. Loved it and listen to it often.

Soul nourishing

This is the book I cannot still believe could be written. It’s like poetry for my soul that summarises 30 years of my own inner journey that post festum gives permission for all those moments and insights to exist. It covers all those gaps in between moments as well and allow s you to breathe.

It acknowledges death mother and only this fact gives such a relief.

I cannot thank you enough for sharing it with us.

While listening I felt I would like to listen to almost every sentence again and again.

I will definitely listen to it a few more times.
