About this listen
New York Times best-selling author Hannah Howell enthralls listeners with her unforgettable tales of the love between fierce knights and their passionate women, weaving her storytelling genius to give us one of her best romances yet....
On the eve of her wedding to the heir of Saiturn Manor, the stunningly beautiful Gytha is shocked to learn that her betrothed, a man she barely knew, is dead. Now she must marry the new heir, Thayer Saiturn, a battle-hardened knight known as the Red Devil....
With a face scarred in battle and a heart broken in love, Thayer has no interest in marriage. But not even the Red Devil can break the promise his foster-father made years ago and soon finds himself married to a woman whose exquisite beauty and sweet innocence intrigue him. But can his new bride look beyond his scars to find a hidden passion and undying love locked deep inside him?

Gytha - an awesome romantic female MC
I gravitated to this book because I can always count on Mary Jane Wells to give a stellar performance - which she did. Her characterisations were excellent. Gytha has got to be one of my all-time favourite FMCs. She's strong, intelligent, loyal and far from shallow. The way she comprehensively communicates her rationalised thoughts is truly admirable. I wish other fictional FMCs were like that..heck, if people were like that in general the world would be a better place! Bravo to Hannah Howell for creating a strong and loyal MMC with realistic emotional vulnerability and lacking of the typical pretty face. Bravo! The red devil may have been a fright to behold but Gytha rightfully identified beauty in many other ways which added substance to this story. The ending, though a little laboured, ended satisfyingly well. I recommend.
