Understanding your chronotype is so helpful
I scored a 29. I originally got this book because I came across an entrepreneur who upped his hustle game by focusing his idea generation time around his sleep chronotype. What???… Yes that was my initial reaction too.
So I went searching and found this book, written by a fellow a
Australian, and this book answered so many questions I didn’t know needed answering. Here are some stand out facts you’ll get from this book…
1. ‘Delaying school times by one hour could reduce teen motor vehicle accidents by up to as much as 70%.’ - this explained why I always struggled in high school and truely hated starting class at 8am.
2. ‘It takes a parent 6 years to fully recover after having a child. (Their sleep patterns). In the first year, parents get an average of 4.5hrs sleep a night.’ - although I’m yet to be blessed with children, I do worry how that will affect my sleep, and want to give my best self to my kids. But I wonder how I will do that if I’m sleep deprived.
3. ‘As you age, most elderly people shift towards Lions. So 65 and older are asleep by 9pm. 53% of older people experience chronic pain which contributes to a lack of sleep.’ - now I finally get why my 70yr old parents sleep at 8pm, and have greater empathy for their biological tiredness.
This is definitely a book that will help you not only understand how to align your life best around your natural sleep chronotype, but it will make you realise what you may change and evolve into and prepare you for those changes.
It really makes you think how there can be many different peak and off peak times for people, but society has dictated that it must fit within the confines of a 9-5.
