Anna McNuff had never run a mile without shoes on before. And yet, one British summer, she set off to run a (very) wiggly route from the Shetland Islands to London–on a mission to cover the distance of 100 marathons…in bare feet.
Fuelled by a desire to push mind and body to the limit (and to drink tea and eat biscuits), she zigzagged over rugged coastlines, through small villages, across windswept moors, along golden sandy beaches, and even down the odd picturesque A-road. As the journey gathered pace, she was joined by thousands of other runners and soon learned that, even though she was (usually) the only one in bare feet, this was far from a solo journey.
Barefoot Britain is warm-hearted, funny and painfully honest–featuring remote islands, big cities, kind strangers and setbacks-a-plenty. It’s a story which reveals the messy reality of taking on a crazy idea, and above all, shows how one person’s will to dig deep and carry on can encourage others to do the same.

Loved it!
Anna McNuff. A brilliant woman. Fabulous writer and alround bloody awesome person. Her books have brought me so much pleasure EACH time I’ve listened to them. Yes, listened to them all at lwaat twice. When you can’t go out on your own adventure listen to hers. So real. So honest and just great!

Giggling my way through this one.
Absolutely loved this inspiring book, the second of Anna’s books that I’ve listened to. As someone who loves an adventure (although nothing as epic as Anna’s) it was easy listening with so many giggles throughout. Anna’s humour was perfect for this English girl living in Australia. I’m currently slightly held back on the adventure front with 2 small children to look after and so I loved listening to this adventure, about the amazing moments and the challenges faced. For me it really hit home how amazing and strong we can be when we put our mind to it. Brilliant read or listen.

Ever relatable and totally inspiring
Anna is awesomely bonkers. I chose this book straight after listening to her shorter book Bedtime Adventure Stories for Adults.
I remember seeing bits of barefoot Britain via Anna’s Instagram and thinking how incredible a challenge she’d taken on.
Her book kept me riveted over the past two weeks, I’ve devoured every last bit like a slab of chocolate cake after a long adventure run.
If you like listening to adventures, and feeling like you’re really a part of the journey, this book will be for you.

One Crazy Pink Haired Woman!
As with her other books, Anna immediately engages, excites and enthrals with her cheerful insanity. Always upbeat in the face of bizarre obstacles and eye watering challenges. I just love the way she sees things, animating toes and many other objects with her very funny internal dialogue. A wonderful listen, assured to lift your spirits and inspire. 10/10 ⭐
