About this listen
Sir Philip Rookwood is the disgrace of the county. He's a rake and an atheist, and the rumors about his hellfire club, the Murder, can only be spoken in whispers. (Orgies. It's orgies.)
Guy Frisby and his sister, Amanda, live in rural seclusion after a family scandal. But when Amanda breaks her leg in a riding accident, she's forced to recuperate at Rookwood Hall, where Sir Philip is hosting the Murder.
Guy rushes to protect her, but the Murder aren't what he expects. They're educated, fascinating people, and the notorious Sir Philip turns out to be charming, kind - and dangerously attractive.
In this private space where anything goes, the longings Guy has stifled all his life are impossible to resist...and so is Philip. But all too soon, the rural rumor mill threatens both Guy and Amanda. The innocent country gentleman has lost his heart to the bastard baronet - but does he dare lose his reputation too?
Contains mature themes.

You had me at orgies!
KJ Charles, you had me at orgies!
What a sinfully delicious book! In the last year I have become a big fan of KJ Charles, and particularly the audiobooks. I have been waiting for this one to come out in audio, and it was worth every second of the wait.
The debaucher. The debauchee. The badarse woman. All of them thumbing their nose at convention, and doing it in a delightful way.
This was a fun regency-style romp that had me smiling and laughing in some most inappropriate social situations.
I love this narrator. Cornell Collins has that great balance of naivety and sauciness. He made me feel like I was sitting in the drawing room, drinking tea (or in the case of these characters, something a lot stronger).
This book made a road trip in the rain this weekend all the more enjoyable. I hope we get more light hearted rom-comish stories in the future.

Narrator, story, and characters = ✅✅✅
Simple story, great characters, and an awesome narrator that just tied everything up like a beautiful bow. Highly recommended.

It’s a long time since I have read a book with such a sensitive topic. Well done to author, narrator, and self as reader. Sensitive, focussed and encouraging to read more of the same topic. Champion.

An absolutely ravishing read
I cannot express how delightful this book is. Not only does it beautifully cover queer romance and sex, but also prioritises consent, explores ethical non-monogamy, and manages to be wonderfully witty and funny throughout. The narration is exceptional, perfectly capturing all the different characters. Can not recommend it enough.

Wonderful romantic comedy of manners!
I’ve yet to listen to a KJ Charles book I haven’t loved and this historical comedy of manners was particularly good! Due to scandals in the family, siblings Guy and Amanda Frisby live a quiet, isolated life in the country, near to those flouters of social respectability, Sir Philip Rookwood and his equally disreputable cronies, the Murder. When Amanda breaks her leg in a riding accident, she is forced to convalesce at Rookwood Hall with Guy in attendance. Despite initially being scandalised, Guy grows to appreciate the unconventional household and Sir Philip in particular. While different in execution, this sweet romance had the plot of a PG Wodehouse novel: there‘s an outraged aunt, a deliciously slanderous novel, a marriage proposal from cold fish, and some wonderfully happy endings. It’s light and fun and thoroughly entertaining. Cornell Collins is the go-to audio narrator for historical m/m romance, and he performs a fantastic range of characters and emotions here (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue). Great stuff!

Not my cup of tea
I’m not really into this type of book. If you like gay romances this is for you
