About this listen
1970. Baba Lenka begins in an icy Bavarian village with a highly unorthodox funeral. The deceased is Baba Lenka, great-grandmother to Eva Hart. But a terrible thing happens at the funeral, and from that moment on, everything changes for seven-year-old Eva.
The family fly back to Yorkshire but it seems the cold Alpine winds have followed them home and the ghost of Baba Lenka has followed Eva.
This is a story of demonic sorcery and occult practices during the World Wars, the horrors of which are drip-fed into young Eva's mind to devastating effect.
Once again, this is absolutely not for the faint of heart. Nightmares pretty much guaranteed.

The queen of occult horror!
As I often like to start my reviews with, I am an avid reader of horror and have been so for over 40 years. These days it's usually graphic splatter punk ala Kristopher Triana, Aron Beuregard and so on; but late last year, I stumbled across Sarah England and have been devouring her books at a rapid pace. I tore through the Father of Lies trilogy and the linked tale of Owlmen over the last couple of months, and this morning, I finished this book: Baba Lenka.
As with the aforementioned books, Baba Lenka is another cleverly crafted tale of black magic, possession, cults and witchcraft that is brilliantly pieced together, reminding at times of Brian Lumley's Necroscope. I thought the earlier books were addictive but this one had me up late at night past bedtime, or sitting in the car long after the arrival at my destination just to hear what was going to happen next!
An almost flawless tale of occult horror with fantastic narration, this one is most definitely worth your time.
5/5 in all departments.
