Publisher's Summary

At last, the definitive audiobook about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View from the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow.

In Ayoade on Top, Richard Ayoade, perhaps one of the most 'insubstantial' people of our age, takes us on a journey from Peckham to Paris by way of Nevada and other places we don't care about. It's a journey deep within, in a way that's respectful and non-invasive; a journey for which we will all pay a heavy price, even if you've waited for the smaller paperback edition.

Ayoade argues for the canonisation of this brutal masterpiece, a film that celebrates capitalism in all its victimless glory; one we might imagine Donald Trump himself half-watching on his private jet's gold-plated flat screen while his other puffy eye scans the cabin for fresh, young prey.

Just brilliant

I haven't laughed out loud on the bus for many years - probably due to the lack of travelling on said buses due to covid but still, this brought back fine memories of stifling a laugh while an old lady looks at me curiously.

Broken a record!

I've never laughed for as long as I have while listening to this book. The movie is certainly not one I would've normally picked to watch but hearing Richard describe and analyse it made it so entertaining.
I'll definitely give it a few replays!

Hilarious!

A very odd premise for a book. Once I accepted the concept, I found it refreshing and deliciously amusing. I wish it didn't have to end!

love Ayoade but needs more illustrations

This makes me have emotions regarding Ayoade's upbringing. I could and did listen to Ayoade all day. #inyourfacetolstoy

Quirktastic

Loved the ebb and flow of cynicism, charm, irony and admiration. The entanglement of pop culture, lowfi humour, highbrow nods and arch everything is surprisingly endearing.

Amazing! Worth every penny

I saw Ayoade discussing this book on a talk show and knew I had to read it but then saw I could also hear it read by the Author and knew I couldn't pass it by, and I have not been disappointed. This is the first review I have ever written in all the years I have listened to Audible because this man is hilarious, in how he writes and how he delivers and reads them. Usually, when someone wanders from the point they are discussing or waffles on about a vaguely related personal experience but that is the whole point of this review. The funniest thing you will hear this year.

Very very funny

My favourite of Richard Ayoade’s books so far, and I think the most successful. It is easily the best satire of what Hollywood films I’ve read/listened to.
I can’t help but wish we could have a Richard Ayoade commentary track to accompany the film itself.
