About this listen

Awakening the Soul addresses issues of the loss of soul throughout the world and the loss of meaning and truth in modern life. Using ancient myths and stories and compelling insights, Michael Meade illustrates how meaning is essential to the human soul and describes how soul can be recovered and people can learn to “live in truth.”

Drawing from dramatic episodes in his own life, Meade shows how the soul tries to awaken at critical times, and how an awakened soul is crucial for finding medicine to treat the ailments and alienation of modern life. What we need now is not a minor repair, but a major transformation of the world that can only start with the awakening of the individual soul.

I love his message and way of delivery. a lot of great insights in this book. my only comment is that it could use more story telling less analyzing.

Bold and crucial

I believe this book explores a huge way we can bring meaning into our lives as humans, individually and collectively. The ways in which Meade conveys the ideas are relatable through old stories and present day overlap.
At times his voice is monotonous, but overall I enjoyed his mature tone and gravity.

If the idea of a fleeting world that is left unspoken has ever passed your mind, read this book!

Intriguing stories

Intriguing stories. Poetic and yet very real and poignant language. Wonderfully read by the author.

shallow and didactic

The main critique I have is that this book is written for people who already are convinced of what Meade is trying to say. For them, however, this book has no practical solutions to help them.

For the unconvinced, this book is too shallow and hosts a plethora of fallacies and generalisations. I found his opinions forced into my mind every few pages through the art of repetition that West is bad, soul is good. It ignores the fact however that the myths he presents come from cultures that are far more diverse that he presents them to be. He doesn't explore the myths in this book but rather uses them to make the same point again and again.

It is a valid point, but it could have been summarised in an one hour lecture.

His tragic story about his army experience was insightful.
