About this listen
Deadwood might have been torn down and forgotten, except that it also holds the distinction of being the town where an angry assailant killed Wild Bill Hickok while he was on his honeymoon. Wild Bill was shot in the back while he was holding a hand of cards that became known as a Dead Man's Hand.

Patricia L. Lawrence goes on a visit to Deadwood, one of the most infamous Old West towns in history. Most likely named after the large amounts of deadwood on the surrounding hillside, Deadwood was also the setting of the murder of Wild Bill Hickok, who was on his honeymoon at the time. Wild Bill was shot in the back while holding a hand of cards that would later be known as Dead Man's Hand. Lawrence visits the Deadwood Gulch Wax Museum and then joins a historic reenactment of Hickok's shooting and manages a brief interview with his murderer, Jack McCall. This charming travelogue provides listeners with a host of interesting facts about this Wild West town.
