Editorial reviews

Gregory Itzhin leads a cast that also includes Fran Adams, Ed Begley Jr., Judyann Elder, Arye Gross, Richard Masur, and Daniel Passer in an LA Theatre Works production of Robert Myers' play. Myers' brilliant, well-rounded portrayal of the Republican strategist Lee Atwater shows him as an uptight country boy, obsessed with Southern soul music and Machiavelli, who became a master of negative and attacking political campaigns while working with the likes of Strom Thurmond, Ronald Reagan, and George HW Bush. The entire experience hinges on Itzhin, however, and he manages to imbue Atwater with a remarkable liveliness, charm, and charisma.
