About this listen
Peopled by larger-than-life heroes and villains, charged with towering questions of good and evil, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand’s magnum opus: a philosophical revolution told in the form of an action thriller—nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.
Atlas Shrugged is the "second most influential book for Americans today" after the Bible, according to a joint survey of five thousand people conducted by the Library of Congress and the Book of the Month Club in 1991.
In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts?
This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world—and did. In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, he sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he have to fight his battle not against his enemies but against those who need him most? Why does he fight his hardest battle against the woman he loves? The answers will be revealed once you discover the reason behind the baffling events that wreak havoc on the lives of the amazing men and women in this remarkable book.
Tremendous in scope and breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus, which launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon. Atlas Shrugged emerged as a premier moral apologia for capitalism, a defense that had an electrifying effect on millions of readers (and now listeners) who had never heard capitalism defended in other than technical terms.

reevaluation
verry thought provoking, found myself rethinking my beliefs, and find that the view expressed are related to the many issues of today.

Everyone should read this
Philosophy as an adventure story highlighting the best in human nature and those who seek to plunder it. More poignant today than the day it was written. Ms Rand has a wonderfully descriptive turn of phrase. A joy to read ... with a purpose! Not a frilly waste of your time. Send a copy to your local politician for Xmas.

Happy ending, good listen, very well read, interesting characters. The whole thing is well dressed and the author managed to express herself.

Philosophical, thought provoking and a great story - a rare combination…!
Often these weighty epics that are written to skew your perspective on life are, frankly, really rather boring, however I found the narrative of Atlas Shrugged very engaging and the story was as important as the message - worth the 60 odd hours of attention…

Refreshing Book that's not for everyone.
It was very nice to listen to something with a timeless positive message in it and it certainly changed my outlook on life for the better. I can see how the philosophical points in the book could be quite long winded for the tastes of people but I personally didn't mind and I was always looking forward to seeing what happened to the main characters next. I would recommend this to anybody that has a lot of time to listen (I found it to be great listening material while at work) and an open mind. The Author does not shy away from very openly telling how she feels about certain types of people and the quality of their character but I believe it was presented in a convincing and profound way that had clearly been extrapolated on and backed by her own personal philosophy. How much her beliefs resonate will change from person to person but I believe it has value in considering even if you dont agree. Try to ignore the 1-star reviews writing it off as "capitalist propaganda from an author that hates poor people", I don't think the people that leave these notes even read the book.

Epic but thought provoking
I think this time is a valuable read for anyone that believes that capitalism is the only system of society that currently works. This book goes pretty far but has good insights, and the book is a good read too.
