About this listen

Here are two action-packed novels from David Drake's "Hammer's Slammers" series, which set the standard for military science fiction.

In At Any Price, Col. Alois Hammer's indomitable Slammers are called in to support human colonists against a native uprising in this novel-length adventure. But even though the natives' off-world weapons are no match for the Slammers - their ability to teleport gives them a frightening advantage!

In Rolling Hot, the battle-crazed troop of recruits and vets, led by Captain Ranson, must cover 300 miles of hostile enemy territory.

Uninteresting

Both of these titles lack narrative tension, there simply isn't any danger to the protagonists.

Fascinating story angles

Great action and two completely different stories with interesting twists. Some parts may be a bit questionable but they match the overall style.

Weird - just weird

Containing a large section of heavy phallic symbolism..... Hammers merc battalion The Slammers are fighting on the gay colony planet against the teleporting silicon based natives.

The human colonists are referred to as the poof battalions, and the first battle description contains a huge amount of sexual innuendo as they capture a weirdly vaginal cave filled with alien young.

At least that's what I heard and was far from what I was expecting.

This was inappropriately hilarious. I doubt if I will finish this, but after 90 mins I am intrigued if this book maintains its closeted repression.

I was expecting a standard hetro pulp military Sci fi story. This book is definitely a product of bygone attitudes and eras.

Bizarre. Just Bizzare. My friend read this in the 90s and didn't pick up on any of this, and I am unwilling to re-listen to this. I heard what I heard.

It made me guffaw for extended periods.
