About this listen
They stole her magic.
They killed her friends.
Nothing in the multiverse will stop her quest for revenge.
Kate Rossdale once held all the promise of becoming Baltimore’s greatest sorceress. But a promise is a hard thing to hold when your coven is murdered, your magic is stripped away, and the only solace left to you comes one powdered line at a time.
When she’s offered the restoration of her power by a man she doesn’t know or trust, Kate sets in motion the retribution of her enemies.
Soon she finds herself racing across the globe, and across worlds, venturing into exotic realms of forbidden dreams, to the spires of Lost Carcosa, hunting for the magic-thief who robbed her of everything she held dear, including the most dangerous magic any sorceress can possess - hope.

A bolt of emerald lightning from Seth
I was a bit apprehensive about this one. the Valducan series is easily one of my favorites not just from Seth, but in general. Ashes is a slight departure from the extremely pulpy, almost blockbuster action that is something like Damoren, but it still packs a great punch.
Like a lot of Seth's work, there's hidden groundwork in this story. characters feel like they have a history, the locations have significance, and the lore is thick that you can almost feel it. you can get a little lost unfortunately, with the multitude of alien world's and species presented on the book. but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
while I miss R.C Brays voice, Caroline Shaffer does an excellent job as Kate and a slew of supporting characters. Each one grows more and more likeable as the book progresses. not quite to the same extent as the valducan series manages to accomplish, but still.
appreciated were the many nods to other authors of weird fiction, and the fantastical creatures inside this book. The hounds are up there with deep ones and Eldar things, as well as many of the creepy elementals presented.
a fantastical romp through the cosmos.
