About this listen
Mornington Peninsula, 1999. All Joan ever wanted was to be a painter, but after thirty-five years of marriage, she finds she is simply a wife, mother and good citizen. On a whim, she escapes to the grand Duchess Hotel to find herself.
At the Duchess, Frances drops by most days to escape her daughter, Alison, who seems intent on putting her in a home, while hotel maid Kirrily is struggling to balance work, family and her dreams.
When Joan decides to pick up a brush and start painting again, she inspires Frances and Kirrily - and, eventually, Alison - to join her. Over canvas, conversation and creativity the women learn to hold onto their dreams and live life on their own terms.

B/B
What a lovely & so well written story of life as women mainly & how we are perceived to want to continually live our life. Plus the misconceptions we make of folks we meet along our way of living our life & changing our lives to suit our soul. 🚐

cute story, easy listen
this book was an easy listen and great to have on while I worked, the characters were interesting and some good plot points. may have been slightly over filled with characters as it was hard to really warm to them and embrace their story.

Not my favourite
I struggled to feel connected to the characters and the story, it was as if there was information about them, but a lack of knowing them. This is my 3rd book by this author but not my favourite.

did AI write this?
Characters robotic. bored out of my brain. Reader read slowly so I had the impression that she thought listeners were hearing impaired.

I’ve tried to stick with it.
I’ve enjoyed other titles by this author, but this title is going nowhere.
I can’t finish it.
Disappointed.

I expected a storyline
I’m sad to say that this book bored me so much. The characters were meh. Don’t understand why everyone was so intrigued by the character Joan.
