Fritz Mauthner war Schriftsteller und Philosoph. Nach einem nicht vollendeten Studium der Rechtswissenschaften wandte sich Mauthner journalistischen und schriftstellerischen Tätigkeiten zu. Für das "Berliner Tageblatt" schrieb er von 1876 bis 1905 Feuilletons und Theaterkritiken. 1878 veröffentlichte er die literarische Parodie "Nach berühmten Mustern" die ihn landesweit bekannt werden lässt.
