About this listen

Time is running out. Together, they can save the world. But they are each other’s worst nightmare.

Nova’s double life is about to get a lot more complicated.

As Insomnia, she is a fully fledged member of the Renegades, a syndicate of powerful and beloved superheroes.

As Nightmare, she is an Anarchist - a group of of villains who are determined to destroy the Renegades. Nova wants vengeance against the so-called heroes who once failed her when she needed them most.

But as Nova, her feelings for Adrian are deepening, despite the fact that he is a Renegade and the son of her sworn enemies and, unbeknownst to Nova, he has some dangerous secrets of his own.

The line between good and evil has been blurred, but too much power could mean the end of their city - and the world - as they know it.

Critic Reviews

"In a vividly dark and fully imagined universe where special abilities are feared unless they can be strictly controlled and labeled, Meyer celebrates and subverts popular superhero tropes while mining the gray area between malevolence and virtue." (Publishers Weekly)

"Meyer delivers a balance between intricate world-building and fast-paced action sequences." (School Library Journal)

When you don’t want there to be only 3 books

I haven’t enjoyed a series like this since The Hunger Games or Kirstin Cashore’s Graceling series. There were some eye roll moments, the feeling like we’ve seen this before somewhere…but admittedly, it’s a big ask to expect any writer, or creator of anything for that matter, to avoid repetition thoroughly at this point in history.
On the plus side, there were some superheroes and villains in this series with such fantastically new and fresh powers, Sketch and Ruby among others, that it meant it wasn’t just another powered people story.
I only had one comment about the performance and it was that even though he was meant to be at reduced health and all that, I still imagined Ace to be a powerful(ish) middle aged man with a normal voice, not one that sounds like the 98 year old butler of the Addams family from a show in the 60s.
The only other comment I want to make is that there are only so many times you can use the word ‘guffawed’ in one book and two times is probably that number.

OMG!!

I love this series so much. This book was better than the first imo. The family moments between Adrian and his Dads or whenever little Max is involved are the best scenes in the book, so wholesome and happy.
