Publisher's Summary
New York Times best-selling author Nalini Singh is back in the shadows of a deadly, beautiful world where angels rule, vampires serve, and one female hunter must crawl out of the darkness to survive....
The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past...but Dmitri's need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo.
Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel's right hand and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality...the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her.
As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting, and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more....

Dmitri and Honor
When I first started reading this book I was a little disappointed and was very close to skipping it so that I would read it. You are probably wondering why, we’ll its all because it wasn’t about our favourite Arc Angel and Guild Hunter. But to be totally honest I’m glad that I did read it. Dmitri and Honor’s story had me on the edge of my seat. The connection between these two is something that you just don’t want to miss out on. You want to ride this roller coaster from the beginning to the very end.

more violent and sexist than others in series
still a good listen. some touching moments. But seems to be very ok with domestic violence, a bit disempowering to women in areas. Dimitri is a more violent character than the others but it doesn't excuse some of the destructive, indirect msgs.

Incredible!
I love reading/listening to these books!
Nalini Singh's writing is unlike anyone else and tells of incredible tales.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Honor and Dmitri's story. Dmitri always seemed so cruel but we learn of a new side to him in this book. And Honor has overcome so much after her capture and shockingly, it's Dmitri that helps her overcome the horror she experienced the most.
I loved every word and can't wait to read more from this series!

Awestruck
this story was sad, funny and beautiful.
Honour was strong and empathetic. The blade, Dimitri was a fitting character for through the ages. The narrator did a great job too.

Great series
Wrong narrator on every level. Bit the series is great and I love getting lost in their world. Fingers crossed I’ll get used to JE (nothing personal - just not this series), and be able to enjoy it again.

Nothing happened!
I've liked this series so far, but,..... no 4 is a total waste of time and money.
How many ways can one problem be presented? This book is just awful. Justine Eyre is mournful and wining all thru. Quality so poor I had to raise the volume a lot which considering some of the scenes, was a worry for any flapping ears. After 1000 plus books, I vote this the worst.
