About this listen

Popular fiction is filled with images of archaeologists as daring adventurers who constantly risk life and limb in the pursuit of fabulous antiquities of immense historical and monetary value. There are evil villains, great romances, and unknown perils lurking around every corner.

That's the view many people have of archaeology. But what is the truth behind the myth? And why have the myths persisted for so long?

In this audiobook, you'll explore the fiction surrounding archaeology, why we as people love and perpetuate that fiction, and what the truth behind the fiction really is.

Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction. Come along and explore both.

Confused by the last two chapters

The book itself is enjoyable, although a little confusing at first with the authors duel narrative (half non fiction explanations preluded by a fictional account)... but the last two chapters are confusing. Essentially, they are interviews by the production company of the author, but they begin with dialog between two characters on the show interviewing the author, and offer no explanation. They also conclude with 15-30 mins of random other story’s being read out, some of which are clearly episodic and half way through. Over all a good listen, once you wrap your head around what is going on.
