Publisher's Summary
A brand-new novella from the New York Times bestseller of Divergent
A thrilling, profoundly moving science fiction retelling of the Greek tragedy Antigone filled with inevitable doom, heart-break and one final act of courage.
Outside the last city on Earth, the planet is a wasteland. Without the Archive, where the genes of the dead are stored, humanity will end.
Passing into the Archive should be cause for celebration, but Antigone's parents were murdered, leaving her father's throne vacant. As her militant uncle Kreon rises to claim it, all Antigone feels is rage. When he welcomes her and her siblings into his mansion, Antigone sees it for what it really is: a gilded cage, where she is a captive as well as a guest.
But her uncle will soon learn that no cage is unbreakable. And neither is he.
“A gut punch of a story…. You'll be holding your breath until the very last word.”—Olive Blake, New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six
“A memorable, unpredictable journey from which it is nearly impossible to turn away.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review
“A hugely imagined, twisty, turning tale that leads through the labyrinths of magic and war to the center of the heart.”—Diana Gabaldon

Not great
Veronica does not seem to have written anything good since the divergent series. But that series was so great it's worth persevering.

Dark
I listened to this book because I love January Lavoy’s narration. It is a well written story, if a little difficult to follow at times. But it is very miserable with no moments of bright or a happy/hopeful ending.
If you like depressing dystopian fiction, then this is for you.
