Publisher's Summary
NOW A MAJOR TV SERIES STARRING SAM NEILL AND ANNETTE BENING
From the outside, the Delaneys appear to be an enviably contented family. Even after all these years, former tennis coaches Joy and Stan are still winning tournaments, and now that they've sold the family business they have all the time in the world to learn how to 'relax'. Their four adult children are busy living their own lives, and while it could be argued they never quite achieved their destinies, no-one ever says that out loud.
But now Joy Delaney has disappeared and her children are re-examining their parents' marriage and their family history with fresh, frightened eyes. Is her disappearance related to their mysterious house guest from last year? Or were things never as rosy as they seemed in the Delaney household?
SHORTLISTED FOR THE ABIA GENERAL FICTION BOOK OF THE YEAR 2022
Praise for Apples Never Fall
'I loved it. Apples Never Fall is an absolute page-turner with all the wit and nuance that has put Liane Moriarty head and shoulders above the crowd and shows once again why she leads the pack.' - Jane Harper
'Utterly and completely wonderful. I've loved all of Liane's books but Apples Never Fall is next-level writing: an intelligent, forensic portrait of a family' - Marian Keyes
'To say Moriarty nails the zeitgeist is an understatement. In fact, Apples Never Fall takes us right through to the COVID-19 pandemic . . . With her relatable characters, keen eye and complicated story structure, Moriarty has produced yet another great romp.' - Sydney Morning Herald
'Her novels, of course, are highly readable. But to categorise them as beach reads is to dismiss Liane's distinctiveness as a writer - the dark comedy, the razorblade observations, the ever-present sense of aspiration.' - Sun-Herald
'Clever, engaging and funny, Liane Moriarty's new novel, Apples Never Fall is a great read. A razor-sharp dissection of family dynamics over-laid with the mystery of an unexpected disappearance, it kept me captivated.' - Weekend Australian
'Nobody does it better' - Vogue
'Moriarty brings it all together with heartwarming insight and empathy and that wicked final barb.' - Adelaide Advertiser
'Settling in with a new Liane Moriarty novel is a bit like a catch-up with an old friend or binge-watching a favourite series. Time just flies and you can't help but crave more. Moriarty has an incredible talent for building complex, compelling tales loaded with spot-on human interaction, dark and light, as well as drama, suspense and insight. Apples Never Fall delivers again. This could well be her best effort yet. Brilliant.' - Herald Sun
'Moriarty tells a great story, understands her characters and cares about them, too.' - The Washington Post
'Magnificent, pyrotechnic, deliciously theatrical' - Guardian
'Moriarty has an eye for the telling details that rivals Anne Tyler's - and a knack for building suspense.' - People Magazine
'A witty tale of domestic suspense, and a satisfying, layered family drama where the tension comes from the treachery of memory, the specter of generational violence and the effects of decades' worth of unspoken resentments that have curdled over time. . . . Moriarty once again shows her mastery with the inner working of women.' - The New York Times Book Review

Not my favourite
I struggled to keep listening to this book. I found the story very long winded and could have been told in half the time.

This was very disappointing
The reader is the same as usual. I don't like the way she reads. Her speed it too fast and her characterisations are flat. I was expecting a really good listen but it was disappointing and so I gave up on it.

Terrible narration voice
Couldn’t finish due to the narrator. Most annoying voice. May I suggest a career as a fish wife.

The story is fine the narration is terrible.
I found the story engaging enough however as much as I wanted to listen the narration simply prevented me from going on. I decided to read the book rather than continue to listen to the very annoying narrator.

LOVED IT
Laughed and cried whilst listening to this beautifully written and superbly narrated book! Caroline Lee does and amazong job bringing the characters to life. Have been waiting to get my hands on this book when it was announced and it was well worth the wait.

Please, change your narrator!
This is my first Liane Moriarty book - I was curious after the publicity of the tv shows. This has some clever storylines & the detail is very good, but - and this is a big BUT - the narrator’s screeching, childish, & at times completely beyond belief voices ruined this for me. I persevered to the end but I’m relieved it’s over. I’m sorry Ms Lee but I am at a loss as to why you felt the need to make every character sound like a half drunk 1950’s Austraaaayian (spelling intended). You made the characters all sound as if they were struggling at even a basic intellectual level. So, so annoying and unfortunately disappointing. I’ll take a peek at the next book but if it has the same narrator, then I’m sorry to say I won’t even attempt it.

Narration detracts from story
I found this book very difficult to listen too. The narrator’s voice dominated with a loud, nasal and aggressive way of speaking that disturbed my flow with the story line and directed the narrative in a way different to the way I would have read it. I only persist ed because of time constraints and bookclub commitments

Another enjoyable read
I like the way Liane weave mysteries into ordinary life and in doing so reveals pressing Issa of our time
Well developed characters. I enjoyed the dialogue of Joy, the mother the most, however all the dialogue was good
Caroline Lee is a terrific reader
Thanks all concerned

Good plot twists kept me engaged
I enjoyed the story. The plot twists were clever and kept me engaged despite some very annoying characters. I liked the final come-uppance. I believe someone like Savannah can exist, but I find it hard to believe anyone would forgive Savannah as quickly as Joy and Amy did, and I can't believe anyone as wishy-washy and gullible as Joy could have run a successful coaching business. I was put off by the irritating accents of Joy, Amy and Savannah in particular. I have an Australian accent, so it's not that per se, but these were a bit too Kath and Kim to be plausible to me. Even my little boy who overheard one day said, "Oh that is really distressing to listen to." Otherwise well performed.

Good story but narrator didn’t appeal to me.
I enjoyed the plot but couldn’t get past the narrator’s voice- I found it a bit whiny and annoying. Feel bad saying so, and I’m sure it will not annoy others.
