All it takes is one missed step for your life to change forever.
Luca Mason knows exactly who he is and what he wants: In six months, he’s going to be accepted into the Australian Ballet School, leave his fancy private high school, and live his life as a star of the stage - at least that’s the plan until he falls down a flight of stairs and breaks his foot in a way he can never recover from.
With his dancing dreams dead on their feet, Luca loses his performing arts scholarship and transfers to the local public school, leaving behind all his ballet friends and his whole future on stage.
The only bright side is that he strikes up unlikely friendships with the nicest (and nerdiest) girl at his new school, Amina, and the gorgeous, popular, and (reportedly) straight school captain, Jordan Tanaka-Jones.
As Luca’s bond with Jordan grows stronger, he starts to wonder: Who is he without ballet? And is he setting himself up for another heartbreak?

Heartwarming and gorgeous. This is a stunner!
This is the second novel by Tobias Madden that I have read (well listened to). His work gets better and better. This story is so well thought out and has such a fantastic cast of characters that you will be sad when it ends. Friends who are high school age are always complex, and this story revolves around Luca who has a life changing accident which throws him into a world where he has to rethink everything. Lucky for him, he is surrounded by fantastic friends who are able to help him. The new directions he finds for his life are uplifting as are those that his friends find alongside him. Each influences the other, especially Amina. Talk about duckings and swans!
As always Matthew Backer gives such a sensitive performance.
I really recommend that you give this one a go, I think you will be like me and really love it.

Uplifting and entertaining
Such a beautiful book, which I found very enjoyable, entertaining and full of life’s lessons. No matter your age this is worth a listen.

Beautiful story for any aged reader.
Such a lovely feel good story and an excellent young reader book that can be enjoyed by anyone. Especially good because it is Australian. So well narrated and I hope to hear other stories by this narrator. Congratulations author.

Amazing book!!!😍
Loved the book, the narrator was incredible and the storyline was awesome! Loved Luca’s character and his sassy comments
