About this listen

Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Anything Is Possible by Elizabeth Strout, read by Kimberly Farr.

An unforgettable cast of small-town characters copes with love and loss from the number one New York Times best-selling and Man Booker long-listed author of My Name Is Lucy Barton

Recalling Olive Kitteridge in its richness, structure, and complexity, Anything Is Possible explores the whole range of human emotion through the intimate dramas of people struggling to understand themselves and others.

Anything Is Possible tells the story of the inhabitants of rural, dusty Amgash, Illinois, the hometown of Lucy Barton, a successful New York writer who finally returns, after 17 years of absence, to visit the siblings she left behind. Reverberating with the deep bonds of family and the hope that comes with reconciliation, Anything Is Possible again underscores Elizabeth Strout's place as one of America's most respected and cherished authors.

Loved it

When I first started listening I wasn't sure that I'd be able to handle the minutiae of the storytelling. But in the end I adored it.

My only suggestion would be to listen at 1.25 speed. The narrator is a little slow in her delivery. But exceptional otherwise.

Good read!

I'll for more from this author now. I'll go back and read 'My Name is Lucy Barton' - I presume (but can't be sure) that it preceded 'Anything is Possible'. I'm intrigued.

Flawless storytelling every time.

Listening to this story was like bobbing in the ocean, never really being sure where we're going next. A sad and sweet surrender. A brilliant and worthwhile exercise. I'm so sad it's over. Bereft with my chills. Elizabeth Strout is a marvel.

Didn’t like it

I did not enjoy the story. Returned it. The book jumps all over the place. Too many characters, too many ideas.
