About this listen
A scientist from another world. A mage seeking deadly knowledge. A power that could topple an empire.
Nathan's life was defined by labs and lectures until an Archmage yanked him into Davrar and made him a tantalizing offer: master magic in exchange for Earth's scientific secrets. Yet, Nathan can't shake off the feeling that darker truths lurk beneath such promises.
The world of Davrar is a dangerous place teeming with dungeons and monsters–ruled by levels, Talents, and a near-infinite progression of power. Nathan will need to rely on himself to survive, forging alliances and taking every advantage he can get against those that seek to control him.
His unique capacity to counteract magic gives him an unprecedented edge, making him a beacon of resistance against those who wield magic as a weapon of control.
Armed with intellect and an emerging power that could dismantle the very foundations of Davrar's society, Nathan emerges not as a mere student of magic, but as its ultimate adversary: the Antimage.

A Paragon of its Genre and a Love Letter to Science
I’ve read a fair few litrpg’s and most I don’t enjoy compared to normal fantasy usually due to way too much focus on individual stat point management and increasingly ridiculous/specific or overly complicated immersion breaking cheat skills that become too many to track, especially brought down when there’s no flair with the writing and storytelling. However, the author has overcome these problems with a simple and yet expansive litrpg system and writing style. I love the concept of talents and insights especially. The worldbuilding and lore is awesome for a first in the series and feels unique in a saturated subgenre. The MC is smart, knowledgable and feels realistic for what he is. The supporting characters are also likeable. I do feel some need to be fleshed out more beyond their roles and family ties but I’m sure this will be done in future instalments. The antagonists so far are more typical but there are more complex ones hinted in the horizon. Lastly, as a Mechatronics Engineer I thoroughly enjoyed the scientific aspects. It isn’t particularly novel as a whole but the execution when combined with its unique litrpg system felt groundbreaking. I was reluctant about the many different mana affinities but they make sense so far. The author meld science and magic, theory and practicality together with skill and great care and deep thought.
I am thoroughly excited for where the series goes and wish there were a lot more in the series already!
The voice performance was also excellent.

really loved this!
great narration, and I very much enjoyed the detailed approach to skills and talents with the scientific understandings from earth coming in to play. the co cast are all nice, the story progresses but I'm most excited for the next book to see how things move forward. the application of the MCs deep deep scientific knowledge to how they apply it to learning and developing is rewarding, and it's not too theoretical to be boring (I believe). excited to see how the story progresses and what's next for the MC and the new world that is now home...

Fantastic read
I've delved pretty deep into litrpg and this is definitely one of my favourites. The mix of science into magic really makes this have a interesting twist on the genre.
This is one of the series I'm going to waiting for the next release eagerly. I tried thinking of a book this is similar too but I think it stands on its own. I love that's got such a decent length to it as well.

Scratches the itch
Been bored of LitRpgs for some time now. Grew disenchanted, But this book just scratches that itch. I would say the ending was weak - but only because the rest of the book was so captivating.

It can’t keep me interested
Not for me, wish there was some humor in it. Find it terribly hard to keep focus on listening…
