About this listen

A how-to guide to reclaiming your time, money, health and happiness in our toxic diet culture.

In Anti-Diet, Christy Harrison takes on diet culture and the multi-billion-pound industries that profit from it, exposing all the ways it robs people of their time, money, health and happiness. It will turn what you think you know about health and wellness upside down, as Harrison explores the history of diet culture, how it's infiltrated the health and wellness world, how to recognise it in all its sneaky forms, and how letting go of efforts to lose weight or eat 'perfectly' actually helps to improve people's health - no matter their size.

Drawing on scientific research, personal experience and stories from patients and colleagues, Anti-Diet provides a radical alternative to diet culture and helps listeners reclaim their bodies, minds and lives so they can focus on the things that truly matter.

Elliott (gay cis male, he/him)

I have felt shame and guilt about my body for as long as I can remember. This shame and feelings of guilt and worthlessness has led to a number of suicide attempts. The information presented in the Anti Diet is accessible, clear, and understandable. This information has drastically changed the way I think and feel about my body, and I’m excited to move forward in my life. I highly recommend this book.

A Profoundly New Perspective

There are a handful of books I credit with changing my life, and this is one of them. It's difficult to describe the complete rearrangement of thinking that this book produces; Christy Harrison presents us with the red pill, and after reading this, my view of the world is irrevocably transformed. Nothing has ever had such a profound impact on my relationship with my body. My healing from diet culture will be life-long work, but I'm so grateful that I get to do that healing now because of this book.

F*CK DIET CULTURE!!

I've listened to Me Harrison's podcasts for a few months now, and have been in quasi recovery from what I think may be an undiagnosed eating disorder. This book has left me with unspeakable RAGE at how diet culture sucks us in, and how much life I've wasted following arbitrary rules! I can't recommend this work highly enough to EVERYONE questioning their body's ability to do what it's meant to ... and anyone who's ever blamed themselves for not being able to stick to a diet. This rage is simmering, but tempered by the comfort I feel knowing how simple life can be now, and no longer paying any mind to the life thief. Thank you for your amazing work.

Everything I hoped for and more!

I have listened to Christy's podcast for some time now, and it has helped me be curious and understand a lot about my relationship to food, eating and my body. When I heard she was writing a book, i was hoping it would do similarly. Which it has. Her no-nonsense approach to breaking down diet culture, relationships with food, and how it impacts society is truly unlike any other, and hearing Christy in top-flight is empowering and inspiring. Loved this book. I will read it multiple times.

Exactly what I needed to hear at the start of a new year

While this book provides a lot of scientific research to back up its claims, it’s still a really easy listen/read. This is the only approach to health and weight that truly encompasses all minorities. Such an important piece of work, thank you Christy Harrison!

Shifting the way I see the world

While challenging to listen to, this book has begun my journey of slowly unpicking the way I see myself, food, exercise and clothing.

The Most Important Book since The Beauty Myth

If you ever wondered why fat is a 'bad' word and some foods are 'the devil', read this masterpiece. It is a beautifully crafted examination of diet culture and the stealthy destruction is has wrought on so many of us. If I could, I'd make it mandatory. Christy's podcast 'FoodPsych' was my introduction to Health at Every Size and intuitive eating. Nearly two years later, my brain has lots more wrinkles and I'm feeling better about a life lived in diet culture. It hasn't been wasted. Read this book! Go! Now!
