About this listen

At the end of the world, a groundbreaking scientific experiment will change everything.

Dr. Laura Reynolds had it all. A job she loved. The respect of her peers. Student debt she was slowly chipping away at.

And one day, it all went away.

She saw the wrong thing—a colleague's mistake. And to escape, he framed her.

Laura's only option is to join a secretive research project in Antarctica, where she hopes to keep practicing medicine and one day get her life back. But soon after arriving, she realizes that things aren't what they seem in this advanced facility.

And perhaps something strange is happening in the world outside.

Welcome to Antarctica Station, A.G. Riddle's first new sci-fi thriller in almost a year. It's a deep dive into the science and history of Antarctica—with a twist few will see coming.

Never lost me

I struggle with getting hooked on a book. Strike rate is probably 1:7. This book had me hooked from the beginning to the end, every twist, every character…just could not fault

Frustrating.

I liked the premise, however the pacing and reveal of plot points made this a hard read. The main character failed to realise something that was obvious to me hours before it was revealed, which made listening frustrating, and it made the build up and reveal very 'finally'! Crumbs about the broader mystery of what was going on were also too widely spaced, and often repeatedly postponed by characters falling asleep. Overall, it just didn't do it. There was too much disbelief and frustration, and a kind of a lack of urgency that the situations merited.

Enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel with it’s satisfying ending and highly unusual tale. I’ve enjoyed all AJ Riddles’ books from his very first novel to this latest book. Highly recommend!

great story bu the end came to quickly

This book had me captured until 40 minutes from the end. It built up and then the end came so quick. I thought this was going to be a multi book story. I was disappointed. The ending was so quick, I would have given it 5 stars, but knocked a star off for a quick ending. still worth buying.

A somewhat rushed thriller thar spans many genres.

This is a tough one. Whilst I enjoyed this story, it felt like it missed out on the potential it had to he great. The further into the story you get, the more rushed the overall storyline becomes and the pace starts to feel off. The middle was definitely the most enjoyable part, whilst the beginning was far more detailed and better paced.

The narrator does a pretty decent job of setting the tone and voicing the cast, but the editing felt off at times. Sometimes it felt like words were skipped or too much space was left between pauses, plus there was one moment near the middle where the narrator stops to clear her throat.

I would give this one a 7/10.

Ok but not his best work.

I felt like it was lurching from plot line to plot line, not quite cohesive.
Probs bring a little mean but I hold his work with high regard and this was below par but still good.

the main character

the main character should be dead, the amount of dumb decisions they made instead of just getting more information before acting.
the main character takes all these gambles and they all magically work out. if they didn't work out exactly how she thought they still worked out in her favour.
I am comparing this to "the martin" he did a similar treck across an inhospitality landscape, but every time he gambles on a decision sometimes it goes bad, really bad and has to pivot his plan. This main characters pivots involve, oh I ran out of fuel, I will have to go outside and magically have the solution in the storage compartment.

The naration was great though
