Publisher's Summary

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century. In this story of "kindred spirits", McAdams' touching and heartfelt narration proves she is just that - bonded on a deep level to this shimmering classic.

When aging brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help with chores around their farm, Green Gables on Prince Edward Island, neither is prepared for the feisty and imaginative redheaded girl who is mistakenly brought to them instead. Nor are they prepared for the way in which she will change their lives. Through a series of hilarious misadventures, Anne's uncompromising spirit makes her a striking presence in the close-knit village, bringing new friendships, first crushes, and, for her foster parents, a love and openness unimaginable before her arrival.

Rachel McAdams shines as narrator

Absolutely loved Rachel McAdams reading a beloved classic. My husband enjoyed it too and he doesn't even enjoy novels.

Fantastic narrator

This version was fantastic. I am very disappointed to see you don’t have this narrator for other books. She is absolutely wonderful.

Charming, sweet and perfect for a late summer read

Of all the audio versions of this novel, this one is definitely to go for. The narrator has such a perfect voice and is able to change it just slightly enough to perfectly represent every character in the book. The book itself is so sweet and wonderful and dreamy, good for a child and adult alike. It made my affections for cottage life so much stronger, because I miss being able to go to the country.
Overall, this was amazing.

Great narration

Rachel does such a great job narrating the novel. I wish she had done all of them but oh well. Glad to be able to listen to the rest anyhow.

A childhood delight -- unmissable

I am a committed Anne of Green Gables fan, and was prepared to be very severe on Rachel McAdams' reading. It took some getting used to -- I couldn't quite sympathise with her approach to Marilla -- but the reading grows on you and I would say she does a stellar job. This is a delightful novel, full of truth and joy and amusement, and absolutely everyone should listen to this. If you need a good cheering up with the world, this is the audiobook you need. Enjoy.

Anne of the wonderfully narrated story

Anne of Green Gables is a classic and much loved in my household. I truly enjoyed listening to Rachel McAdams reading Anne. She brings the characters further to life and embodies each ones spirit well. Her Anne was perfect, allowing for a rich and vibrant spirit, whilst not neglecting the lows and hardships Anne has been through. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I do wish Rachel McAdams would narrate the rest of the series.

Happy memories

I loved listening to this book. The series was my favorite as a child and I have revelled in being back there in my mind. Rachel McAdams captured Anne beautifully and I liked her subtle change in timbre when dealing with other characters.

Incredible.

You cannot not love Anne. Her story is enchanting and memorable. McAdams does Montgomery a good service in her reading of this literary classic, capturing all the wit, whimsy and heart the first of the Anne books has to lend.
