About this listen

Eleven-year old orphan Anne Shirley has red hair, a vivid imagination and cannot stop talking. Quite a shock for old Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert who wanted a boy to help them on the farm... Anne is soon the talk of the town with her funny ways and endless adventures, but it is not long before she has won the hearts of everyone. This classic story is set in Canada at the beginning of the 20th century and is one of the most enduring favorites of children's literature.

Editorial reviews

The contrast between chatty, warm Anne and reticent, aloof Marilla Cuthbert makes audio the perfect format for this classic. When Anne is mistakenly sent to live with the Cuthberts, who preferred to adopt a boy, performer Liza Ross is off and running with her delightfully spirited rendering of Anne's story. It's enjoyable to hear about Anne's life as she settles down, makes friends, and goes to school. Ross also breathes life into Matthew Cuthbert, as well as the teachers and students Anne encounters as she takes her school by storm. Even the contrasting sad and sprightly music seems to come under Anne's spell.
