Publisher's Summary

Pete Rose is best known for his many years with the Cincinnati Reds as a player and manager. His career began in 1963 and Rose earned his nickname "Charlie Hustle" for his brisk style of play, especially when stealing bases. Rose retired as a player in 1986 and moved to coaching.

Three years later, his brilliant career was mired in a gambling scandal. This interview discusses his many different roles in sports, as a player, a manager and most recently as a radio broadcaster.

Here Rose is interviewed by Ann Liguori, award-winning luminary in sports broadcasting with a celebrated career that spans two decades. Pete's feisty style comes across when Ann asks him about the gambling scandal and what he feels his chances are in ever getting into Baseball's Hall of Fame. Liguori has interviewed some of the most legendary sports personalities, drawing out their success stories, their opinions on a variety of issues, and their love of the game.

Editorial reviews

In Ann Liguori's Audio Hall of Fame: Pete Rose, sports broadcaster Ann Liguori interviews baseball player Pete Rose on everything from his dreams of being in the hall of fame to being booed by fans. Liguori pulls no punches as she asks Rose the tough questions about his past gambling and tax evasion charges. Rose, in his deep voice trained for the radio, asks fans to view him with empathy, as a person with emotions and not a machine. Liguori's performance as an interviewer is engaging and feisty. This interview is a great deal of fun to listen to, especially for baseball fans.
