Ane er med sin mor ude og handle, da hun ser klovne-dukken. Hun forelsker sig med det samme i den og må bare eje den. Men hendes mor vil ikke købe den til Ane, så hun må selv hjem og slå hul i sin sparegris.

Heldigvis har hun penge nok til klovnen, som hun straks køber og kalder Charlie. Men så en dag sker der noget frygteligt: Ane taber Charlie. Ane-bøgerne fortæller om Ane og alle hendes oplevelser både i skolen og derhjemme sammen med venner og familie.
