About this listen
Can a marriage of convenience ever lead to true love? Immediately after Elizabeth Bennet refuses Mr. Darcy's proposal at Hunsford, her father dies, leaving Longbourn entailed away and little fortune to sustain his widow and daughters. Six months later, the Bennet family receives a visitor with a most unusual offer that promises to save the family from financial and social ruin. Elizabeth's sense of duty forces her to enter into an arranged marriage with a man she does not even like.
Told from Elizabeth's point of view, An Arranged Marriage is a compelling twist on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Can Elizabeth overcome her feelings of anger, resentment, and suspicion toward her new husband and - the most bewildering sensation of all - a growing attraction for the last man in the world she ever wished to marry?

Angry, Unreasonable Lizzy
This was a very enjoyable book, except for the first third or so when Lizzy was so totally unreasonable and angry, she was a trial to listen to with her lamentations.
Yes, she was forced into a marriage that she did not want, but her new husband was as reasonable as she allowed him to be; her peevishness and shrewishness made it very difficult for Darcy to be reasonable.
By agreeing to the marriage, The Bennet women were able to keep their home because of a deal that Darcy made with Mr Collins. Even Mr and Mrs Gardiner approved of Darcy and what he was doing to give the Bennet women security. Lizzy even wore black for her wedding when the time for deep mourning was long past.
Thank goodness Lizzy began to soften when her new husband proved that he could be trusted to not make any demands on her. There were still trials but that is what made the story a winner.
Georgiana and Colonel Fitzwilliam feature throughout and with Lizzy eventually taking on the persona we are used to, an Arranged Marriage is a wonderful love story. There is quite a detailed epilogue which gives us satisfying glimpse into the future.
The story is beautifully written and Stevie Zimmerman is, as ever, a brilliant narrator who brings a new dimension to the book.
Highly recommend if you live Lizzy and Darcy falling in love despite considerable angst.
4 1/2 stars.

Frustrating at first, but a happy ending finally
Overall a pretty good p&p alternative. Good plot line, but I found it frustrating how petulant Elizabeth was for much of the story. Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship is fraught with misunderstandings and poor communication- mainly because Elizabeth has entered the marriage reluctantly and is determined to think the worst of Darcy. But finally, finally, the truth comes to light and they open up to each other and end up happy. I like that the story doesn’t stop there but goes a few years into their marriage and tells what happens to everyone else. Georgiana’s romance is a nice addition. Authentic Austinian language, and fairly suitably discrete about their physical relationship, while still giving you the general idea.
