Publisher's Summary
An empire in flames. A prisoner of war. An unbreakable will to escape.
At just 15, Eskara Helsene fought in the greatest war mankind has ever known - and lost. There is only one place her enemies would send a Sourcerer as powerful as her: the Pit, a prison sunk so deep into the earth the sun is a distant memory. Now, she finds herself stripped of her magic; a young girl surrounded by thieves, murderers, and worse. In order to survive she will need to make new allies, play the inmates against each other, and find a way out.
Her enemies will soon find out that Eskara is not so easily broken.

Immersive!
Loved the villain hero female protagonist, who you’re not quite sure you love or hate but also can’t stop wanting to learn more about her adventurous life.

Dark, angry excellent female protagonist
Really enjoyed the flawed protagonist, making mistakes as often as good decisions. Telling her own life story in retrospect with future teasers but still kept me guessing. Looking forward to the next one.

Listener for Moira
Honestly, I didn't enjoy the book very much at the start, but the world intrigued me, so I stayed. In the second half, I began to fall in love with a few characters.

Enjoyable, unpredictable and quite dark
as opposed to a typical heroine, the main character is dark, brooding and vindictive. a self proclaimed bi**h whom I loved to hate akin to some of the villians in game of thrones... the pit is epic, story telling is quite good (once you get over a female trying to do husky male voices).
will be downloading the second. it isn't an easy ride, but a wild one!

Fantasic
I'm not sure if Moria Quirk is my favourite narrator or if she just works with amazing authors, but between this and the giddeon, the 9th books she doesn't miss

Skip this and go the the author's later series
This book wasn't worth the time for me. It felt like the narrator/ protagonist was just reciting a Wikipedia page of events to me.
