Shame about the narration
I’ve listened to a number of Whitaker’s novels now, and quite like the style and scenery. However, I found the narrator really ruined this one for me. It seemed that she didn’t really understand the flow of the sentence structure and often emphasised the wrong words. It really changed the vibe and made following the story difficult at times. For instance, often 2 paragraphs would run into each other and it would combine completely different scenes and characters. Maybe it was more production/editing to blame? Anyway, book was great but would recommend reading it rather than listening to it.

Just a bit ‘blah’
The story didn’t really go anywhere or have a great ending. Accent was hard to listen to at times and not consistent between characters. I didn’t love it.

I found the story dark and disturbing and gripping. Can’t rate the author’s talent highly enough. I’ve already purchased his next novel.
