But when she does: it will break her heart.

Patch lies alone in a pitch-black room - until he feels a hand in his. Her name is Grace and, though they cannot see each other, she lights their world with her words.

But when he escapes: there is no sign she ever even existed.

Left with only her voice and her name, he paints her from broken memories - and charts an epic search to find her.

As years turn to decades, and hope becomes obsession, Saint will shadow his journey - on a darker path to hunt down the man who took them - and set free the only boy she ever loved.

Even if finding the truth means losing each other forever...

Audio tricky

It may be a personal preference however I cannot follow this voice actor - I tried slowing it down but the tone of his voice was difficult. I will read the book as i am intrigued

Flawless. Beautifully written.

I haven’t read a book this gripping and beautiful in years and years.
Also have never read a book where serial killers are involved that has so flawlessly left the disgusting details out of the story. So don’t let that topic put you off, it’s something quite secondary to the story, and wow, I’m just genuinely impressed by the entire story, the weaving of tales, the surprise endings, the dignity afforded the characters, the poetry. Also was beautifully read.

This one will stay with me.

Beautifully written prose. It is essentially the story of the strength that it takes to hold onto hope in unfathomable darkness. What I liked most about this book is its focus on those who have the courage to stand up to evil. The deaths of the girls and the life of the depraved monster who killed them - those are only roughly sketched so as not to give them centre stage. The spotlight is given to Saint and Patch - and their supporting cast - who spend their lives trying to alleviate pain and stop evil.
