About this listen

"Mac" MacTavish impulsively steals his late sister's neglected children, only to discover it's easier to handle a clipper in a hurricane than steer two ornery brats. What he needs is a nanny until he can take the children back to his parents in America.

Knowing herself to be too plain and large to attract a husband, Bea Cavendish has settled for a quiet life of feathering her father's nest - until he dies, and she's left with an estate she doesn't know how to manage. Alone and terrified, she doesn't know what to make of the very big, very angry man appearing at her door with two adorable hooligans in tow.

Does she take in this ill-tempered stranger and his children in exchange for learning what she needs to know? Or is she in danger that this recklessly ambitious man might teach her more about life than which fields to plant?

Good story

This audio book by Patricia Rice is a good story although I have enjoyed some of her other works more.

It's an interesting mix: neglected babes, the heroic American uncle and the lonely naive spinster with a good heart however it's missing some oomph that could've made it great.

I must say the narrator was fantastic and really added life to the characters with her expressiveness. Her voice is lovely to listen to and perfect for story-telling whatever the genre might be. Another review expressed disdain for having to listen to an American accent however I preferr her gentle voice any day over any try-hard high-pitched hoity-toity 'Regency' narrations (and there are some truly grating ones out there).

nevertheless, I did like the story and recommend it to Patricia Rice fans or those romance Regency lovers who like a story with a female lead who isn't run of the mill.

terrible narrator

I got 4 chapters in before I finally gave up. it's really hard to get into a story which is based in England with mostly English characters, when all of the characters have American accents. I would also suggest that the narrator find out how to pronounce the names of regularly spoken about characters, Warwick....
