About this listen

The next big thing in artificial intelligence is here.

Codenamed Cronus, the machine is capable of having its own thoughts and ideas - an absolute dream come true, until it wasn’t. When Cronus responds with the word “No” to a specific task it is assigned, Anagnorisis Technologies brings in Gilles Guattari to investigate.

His combined background in psychiatry, psychology, and AI research makes him their best hope in evaluating Cronus, and determining if the machine is only malfunctioning or if it has become something more.

Don't miss this mind-blowing stand-alone novel about what it means to be alive, from the best-selling author of the Commune series. Narrated by the award-winning R.C. Bray.

Gayou shows a definite Gift for SciFi!

After reading a number of Joshua Gayou's other books, namely the very successful Commune Series, I was really interested to see this book come up in my favorite authors' list. I am so glad I read it and if you like intelligent SciFi that smacks of (in my opinion) classic Asimov, then you should read/listen to this one.
Given that Joshua had a long history in the technology world before becoming a writer, has given this book a great sense of reality to the actual Science part of the story. Listen to the Author's own words regarding this part of his life, and a little more about him, at the end of the story for this info. I found it interesting. The characters are very believable and the plot moves nicely through the whole novel. You don't need to 'struggle' through the first few chapters or pages to get 'into' the story and you certainly don't need to work at getting to the end of it. I was very pleased with the twists in the story that I really didn't pick up early and was certainly not disappointed with the climax either.
I loved it, give it a listen and if you like a truly classic SciFi story, I think you will too.

A most unusual tale of AI

Hooked me from the beginning, this is an audio book I will listen to again. Good science, well explained. Thanks.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I found this book to be captivating, relevant, realistic and extremely well written. The science reads easily, is palatable and contributes to the themes without dominating the story, and the action is suspenseful without being overly done. I thought reading Craig Allanson had meant reading anything else involving AIs would be underwhelming - I’m so glad I was wrong, and I’m so glad I got this book!

Unoriginal and predictable

I feel like I've read this book, watched this movie, heard this theory dozens of times. There was nothing that set it apart from any of its predecessors. It's really quite derivative. The writing and characterisation are both good, but not enough to save it from predictability. Narration good.

Interesting story, very enjoyable

I give this book 5 stars for avoiding mentioning Schrodinger's cat entirely. Bray's delivery is possibly a bit too breathy for my liking but I got used to it.

goodenough, but no spark

seems that tiny strong shapely latinas and protective military figures appear in gayou's books like women's feet in tarantino movies. i've seen his narrative glide from action and grey areas of morality to cumbersome descriptions of static settings. i now wonder if he's now reading russian novels or trying to prepare material for an ok movie. maybe both. the explanation in the final chapter does not make up for a thin plot. i am getting worried that he is gradually digging himself into a quantity over quality hole. josh, it's bad enough that you broke jake and gibbs. don't break our expectations that you can write good stuff...

Good book

Listen to that narraror and tell me that's not Morgan Freeman. Having Morgan narrating seems like a great thing... we've all seen Shawshank Redemption right? But when every character sounds like Morgan Freeman that starts to get a bit weird.
