Publisher's Summary
The ultimate historical adventure novel: the life of Alexander the Great in a single, epic volume.
To many he was a god. To others he was a monster. The truth is even more extraordinary.
As a boy, Alexander dreamed of matching the heroic feats of Achilles. At 18 he led the Macedonian cavalry to a stunning victory against the Greeks. By 25 he had crushed the Persians in three monumental battles and was the master of the greatest empire the world had ever seen. Men began to call him a god. But behind the legend was another, more complex story.
Narrated by his boyhood friend Ptolemy, this is the story of Alexander as you have never heard it before: raw, intimate, thrilling - a story of extraordinary daring and unimaginable endurance; of wanton destruction and murderous intrigue - the epic tragedy of a man who aimed to be more than human.

A masterclass
Once again Christian Cameron has written a brilliant book. He truly has the pulse of Ancient Greece ( Hint hint Christian - keep them coming ). This gives an insight in the larger than life and sometimes disturbing personality of Alexander The Great. Nobody can do Christian’s stories justice in narration then Peter Noble. All I can say Peter is that you were BRILLIANT!!!

Loved it
Fantastic amount of detail and epic story. From Macedonia to the Hellenic struggles and onward to the almost mythical conquering of the known world

An absolute masterpiece!
This, this book is almost perfect. It charts the rise, and rise, and glorious rise of Alexander the great. A man more than human.
And also his fall, his plunging into the mud and blood and excrement of absolute tyranny and insanity.
It would help to know a bit of history to fully appreciate this. But bloody hell. This was great

Warts an all
A warts an all narrative from Ptolemy's POV. Looks past Alexander's sheen into his often overlooked flaws. Good insight into leadership, on what works and what doesn't. Highly recommended for ancient history fans.

frustrating
had some good points, but generally frustrating to listen to, a lot of "he said" when obviously you know who's talking
