Publisher's Summary
From the best-selling author - the story of an award-winning comedian who decided to run for office and then discovered why award-winning comedians tend not to do that.
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it. It's a book about our deeply polarized, frequently depressing, occasionally inspiring political culture, written from inside the belly of the beast. In this candid personal memoir, the honorable gentleman from Minnesota takes his army of loyal fans along with him from Saturday Night Live to the campaign trail, inside the halls of Congress, and behind the scenes of some of the most dramatic and/or hilarious moments of his new career in politics.

Every page will make you lol and cry!
Al Franken is a comedian, writer, teacher, and politician, and this book makes it self-evident why he succeeds at all of them.
He's a great storyteller with an endearing sense of humour. Every page will make you laugh out loud and cry at the same time.
If this book were just about the US Senator Al Franken, 'look what a great guy I am' etc., I wouldn't bother leaving a review.
But it's totally not. In telling his story we feel he's actually writing about you and me, our strengths and weaknesses, and what we can do to enrich our lives and successes even more. He's totally open about himself and his family and gets choked up when relating some tough personal moments, as I did, too.

Excellent
For an Australian observing the machinations of the US political environment, this was a refreshing and hopeful tale. I enjoyed the anecdotes, and for their sake hope that politicians of Frankens ilk rise up from 'the swamp' created over the last 9 months. Great work Al.
