Reading out numbered lists... Really?

This audio book seemed alright when it commenced however it soon descended into reading out numbered lists - for an hour or more! For example, “four point one, the reference number, four point two, the originator name, four point 3, the description, Roman numeral x, the method” and so on. I played a portion of the book to my colleagues at work who said “I don’t understand why you are listening to this rubbish”. They had a point. Any good points in this book were massively overcome by the excessive amount of numbered list reading which ruined it for me.
