The gods have been proven mortal and new heroes will arise as the battle continues in the sequel to Age of Myth—from the author of the Riyria Revelations and Riyria Chronicles series.
In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within.
Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods?
The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind. With time running out, Persephone leads the gifted young seer Suri, the Fhrey sorceress Arion, and a small band of misfits in a desperate search for aid—a quest that will take them into the darkest depths of Elan. There, an ancient adversary waits, as fearsome as it is deadly.
Don't miss any of Michael J. Sullivan's Legends of the First Empire novels:

Even better than book 1
I was so wrapped up in listening to this book that my husband, the most reasonable of men, started jokingly referring to Tim Gerard Reynolds as my boyfriend. I couldn't be parted from it.

Not the best follow up but worth it
Book 2 was hard, very very hard, to finish.
I almost abandoned the series entirely.
But book 1 was so amazing that I decided to push on.
It was worth it because the ending does redeem the boring storytelling throughout this instalment.
Book 3 is something that you can look forward to.

Questing at it's best
Wow! Some old-fashioned questing here - a small party of strong and smart women set out to bring weapons to their people. Encounters with the supernatural are SCARY and HEARTBREAKING. We learn more about the characters we have come to love in this series and they persevere and they triumph, but at what cost? wonderfully written and narrated! On to the next one

Outstanding - dare I say just magic!
What a wonderful piece of writing. There are so many just beautiful moments in the great story. What I really love are the brilliant sentences that are often so deeply philosophical, but are woven in so they don’t distract from the narrative or momentum. Don’t bother with the dramatised versions in this series as this narrator (Tim) is just outstanding.
Just hard to find authors of this calibre who are so prolific. I want to read everything he writes.

I cried
I’m a usually unemotional 31 year old man. Unlike book 1, there were parts of this book where I shed a tear, and there were others where I wept like I was 6 years old again. Call it masochistic, but I’m excited for book 3.
