About this listen

Matt and Chris have made it home ahead of the undead curse, but at what cost?

The dungeon is surrounded, the refugees have made it to safety, but . . . they need food, water, space to recover and rest, and none of these things come cheap. That cost must be paid in mana.

Mike and Kelly were sent to bring reinforcements from the park, but they're walking into a meatgrinder, one that will strip the life from them, then raise them to besiege those they love . . .

Matt has only one chance . . . lead the refugees, forge them anew into a force that can face the undead, in their tens of thousands.

Worst of all . . . the beer's damn well warm.

keep coming back

it is surprising,, I read a wide range of scifi/fantasy..... but I have found this series more palatable as it progressed. it is able to provide characters I think are shallow, sum r bldy annoying, sum I hate..... but that's ideal as it keep me listening, thinking,,,, wots next..

Shallow characters. sex scenes are Cringe AF

Look... I want to love it. The premise and storyline are excellent
and I'll definitely finish the series...

BUT... All characters (other than the MC) have zero personality. They have the basis of a personality.. but it's like an outline of a person. You never truly care about the characters, feel for them, or invest yourself in their struggles.. because they aren't given any depth, They are all written like background characters.

The WORST part of the books are the prolific and absolutely cringey sex scenes... like it was written by a sex starved 14 yr old boy. It's just unnatural, and the dialogue during the romantic scenes and sex scenes is truly painful (think The 40 Year Old Virgin)

it's like someone has written "hot and heavy" from the perspective of someone who has never truly had passionate or caring sex in their life.

Gripping story but…

The story is good and I have enjoyed listening to it but the characters are not well drawn there is no depth to them. It is either fighting or no fighting and some silly conversations. The main character although our hero, is shallow, childish and supremely naive. Supposedly an IT expert he never thinks to check through his own personal data in order to use spells or fight more effectively. The biggest fight in this novel is one where he doesn’t even use his own power to save his personal life until the very end. Meantime when he could have zapped creatures earlier thus saving lives, he doesn’t even think of it. At the end it was a bloody cat that tells him to use his power. Totally and utterly unrealistic and very annoying. Despite this being a Litrpg novel I expect some realism with characters. All this being said I enjoyed this 3rd novel. The narrator was great and did a really good job even with some of the cringe worthy dialogue.

Major flaws but overall decent.

Antagonists are universally racist, arrogant, ugly, sexist, probably rapists, obnoxious, and terminally stupid to the point of being suicidal. It's immersion breaking, and they all feel like copy-pastes of each other.

Also, the MC is dense. Despite being a network engineer, he constantly needs basic stuff pointed out to him like 'Hey if you tie your laces up, you might trip less often while running.'

Aside from these two major gripes, it's a pretty good dungeon core story.

immediately disappointed. I want a refund

Have you heard someone talk so much you forget what they are talking about. Another story where every side character is just so smart and main protagonist knows nothing, the character "matt" continuesly apologies to everyone, again it fails to stick to a theme.

Good story premise, Beyond terrible characters.

Good story premise, Beyond terrible characters, cringeworthy dialog.

Pros:
Fun story premise with plenty of potential.
Good performance by narrator.
Fun combat sequences.

Cons:
The character dialog is awful.
One dimensional character’s, the “bad guys” are so unequivocally evil, and the “good guys” are beyond reproach. There is zero nuance to any of the characters in the series.
The constant quips between characters are hard to sit through.
The protagonist is a shallow two-sided character who is either a bumbling fool or hyper violent menace. Who contradicts his own moral beliefs.
The interactions between male and female characters are almost entirely sexual in nature and beyond cringeworthy.

I have listened to the first three books in the series, and I can’t recommend them.
