Publisher's Summary
In the aftermath of the destruction, Shaun finds himself trapped by the winter.
With little other choice, he joins a group of survivors doing the best they can. His idea of "best" isn’t always shared by the group, though. But before the weather breaks, when he wants to resume his journey, they all face conflict.
Miles away, doing the best that she can, Abbie is adapting to life without power; her own situation is far from ideal.
After the sound of the falling bombs fade, as the dark world they live in tries to recover, they have to find a way to adapt to their new reality.

Solid sequel but bit over done personal drama
If you approach this as a continuation of vol 1 then you’ll enjoy this more. As a stand alone it’s better then most apocalypse drama stories and is refreshing for its setting and strong characters. But it’s a more Apoco opera in common with Commune then the wild Mountain Man series.
At time the self introspection by the two leads was a bit annoying for me but I get it’s part of the author trying to make them more rounded characters. That and let’s face it ppl grappling with the end of the world would have lots of stuff to muse over while trying to survive.
On the whole it’s a decent listen and the narrator does a great job.

Horrific Man Bashing by a Karen (Allie)
Headline says it all. Story is good, interesting, similar to book 1 but the behavior of the female protagonist degenerates into mostly man bashing speeches especially at the very end.
Great reader, good characters apart from Allie, whose behavior is not believable. No person would put up with her manner, no matter what the circumstances.

We’ll written and performed, terrible characters.
I usually like Devon c ford, I have enjoyed his other audiobooks I have purchased. I have never written a review in 50+ audiobooks. This one really put me off.
The main character Abbie, is a sexist, arrogant, narcissistic 45 year old office worker who instantly turns into a super soldier when the world ends... goes around assaulting people with her mad ju-jitsu skills, instantly becomes a weapons expert and a tracker. Looks down her nose at everyone around her. The character personifies a ‘Karen’. Everything is everyone else’s fault, all the problems are caused by men. She’s divorced, but of course is perfectly innocent in the matter and can do no wrong. She rants and raves like she runs the world yelling at soldiers, men and women like they are all children. All while her young daughter watches on to learn the ways of the Karen.
The ex husband is a depressed 45 year old, alcoholic office worker who somehow morphs into a bare knuckle boxing champ overnight, taking on multiple armed men with just his fists. He constantly whines about young people and technology, hates everyone and has the same ‘Karen’ vibe as Abbie.
It seems like Devon C Ford has tried to appeal to older and more female audience, but has got it very wrong. Tried to create the strong independent woman taking on the world, and the old guy who’s still ‘got it’.
Unbelievable to the point of being extremely irritating. No one would put up with these gross Karen like humans, male or female. Especially not soldiers.
The narrator does a good job and even the storyline is good. Just terrible characters.
I thought the characters may develop so stuck through to the end of second book. They don’t.
Disappointing.
