About this listen
These questions were especially compelling for one reason: at the time of Davey's death, Stephanie had been training to fight in a boxing match of her own.
After the Count not only investigates the fight and the aftermath of David Browne Jr's death, but it also interrogates the culture and history of boxing, its gender dynamics, the visceral appeal of the ring and the inherent contradictions of a violent sport that refuses to face up to the consequences of that violence. It is a book that explores the grit and euphoria of combat sport as it digs deep into our collective relationship with physical power, masculinity and violence.©2020 Stephanie Convery (P)2020 Penguin Random House Australia

informative
A good read when sticking to the facts about Davey's fight and tragic death. Often goes off on tangents about her own experiences about being a woman in the boxing world and wondering why she is considered an outsider in boxing when people baulk at her calling herself a boxer.
I would say this is less about her being a woman boxer (at this time women's boxing was fairly strong in NSW look at Kaye Scott and Anja Stridsman etc). And more the fact that she's calling herself a boxer yet never stepped in the ring to compete. Only ever sparred and trained a bit. I would hesitate to call you a boxer too at this point.

Terrible
This book is written by a no one who knows nothing about boxing or the man she is writing about. The more the story progresses the more you will realise this.
A vulcher picking the carcass of the dead body of a national and international story trying to make a dollar.
I wish I didn’t donate a cent of my money to her book but being close to the family, being ringside and witnessing the death of Davey I had to see what is in the book.
Shame on you.
