About this listen
Aaron isn’t looking for love, but it finds him–and it has a few surprises in store....
A laidback man who goes with the flow
Aaron is happy for his friends who’ve found love, but he’s starting to feel as if he’s an endangered species–a single guy. Not that he’s looking for anyone. But if someone were to turn up, he figures they would be female, younger than his 27 years, and as disinterested as he was in searching for a soul mate.
He’s about to get it wrong on most counts.
Working in the Acadia National Park, he meets all kinds of people, like that painter he met the other day. A quiet guy, but he certainly made an impression. Because for some reason, Aaron can’t get him out of his mind.
A bruised soul seeking inspiration
Dean has picked up his paintbrush again. A famous artist who’s spent the last couple of years producing book illustrations under a different name, he’s come back to Maine seeking inspiration–and leaving the past behind him. The glorious natural beauty breathes new life into him, and it brings with it a new friend, a handsome ranger, the only person Dean has felt a connection to in a long time.
But when that connection unexpectedly becomes physical and Dean’s emotions get entangled, he fears history is about to repeat itself.
He’s not about to let his heart be broken a second time.

I’ve LOVED every book in this warmhearted series!
Aaron is one of the few single guys left in his ever-expanding friendship group; nearly all his friends have found the perfect man in the last year. Aaron’s relationships don’t last long and he’s wistful about not finding the right woman. When he strikes up a friendship with Dean, a talented painter, he doesn’t expect to find the right man. Dean has been badly burnt by straight men experimenting with their sexuality so he’s cautious of anything more than friendship but FWB just isn’t scratching his itch. This bisexual awakening romance is a happier story than the beautifully moving Seb’s Salvation, but I loved the wistful tone that seems to permeate all the Maine Men stories. There’s just the right balance of light and melancholy - the characters are all warm and charismatic with some depth. Aaron’s bisexual transition was smooth sailing but didn’t feel forced and I could totally relate to Dean’s once-bitten / twice-shy approach. John Solo narrates the audio with such youthful tenderness, I don’t know how he does it! He expresses the joys and sorrows equally well and I always feel myself relax and sink into his narrations.
