An important, high quality data dump

If you have an interest in William Glasser or Alfred Adler, you should read about ACT. This is not the easiest book to listen to on act, because it is written to help therapists get up to speed, but the quality, quantity, and depth of information is excellent. If you want an easier listen, try The Happiness Trap. We all perceive narrators differently: I like the way the narrator reads the therapist and client’s voice, because it makes the information clear and easy to follow. The narrator does a good job of taking a tone something like the author’s own voice, but this might not be for everyone.

Great book. Awful reader.

ACT is a brilliant therapeutic approach and Russ Harris is an outstanding practitioner and teacher/communicator.
Mr Hills performance almost ruins the experience. His delivery of didactic material is fine, but whenever he delivers the voices of therapist and client - an important inclusion in a practical manual, he voices the ‘therapist’ as overly earnest or smug, and the ‘client’ is portrayed as stereotypically gloomy, less intelligent and unrefined. This combines to undermine the coherence and credibility of the passages depicting client/therapist interactions.
It also seems antithetical to the ACT/Harris recommended approach in terms of the way to think about clients.
Russ Harris is a great communicator. I’d have preferred he’d voiced the whole book. I hope there is a second edition of the audiobook.

great practical book to start using ACT

the way the reader reads - it’s very unnecessarily exaggerated. I found the voice very difficult to listen to and purchased the hard copy in the end
