Publisher's Summary
The Sheedy sisters had lived in Stone House for as long as anyone could remember. Set high on the cliffs on the west coast of Ireland, overlooking the windswept Atlantic ocean, it was falling into disrepair - until one woman, with a past she needed to forget, breathed new life into the place. Now a hotel, with a big, warm kitchen and log fires, it provides a welcome few can resist.
Winnie is generally able to make the best of things until she finds herself on the holiday from hell. John arrived on an impulse after he missed a flight at Shannon. And then there's Henry and Nicola, burdened with a terrible secret, who are hoping the break at Stone House will help them find a way to face the future....

Not one of her best
The story began well for me, but it then split into separate stories which to me did not hang well together. It tended to ramble in a rather fractured sort of manner and there were too many characters and sub plots to keep track of them all.

Long winded.
Not Maeve's best book. So much so that I doubted it was hers. It drags out way too much. If half as long would have been ok. The narrator is ok but has upward lilt at the end of sentences. It becomes boring. I much prefer Kate.

It was a good story but I didn’t like how it ended, it felt hurried and incomplete. The narrator was okay. I do regret buying the book.

Magnificent Maeve
I have always enjoyed reading Maeve Binchy. Such a wonderful take on human stories.
This is my personal favourite! I had the novel and read it so often the cover fell off! 😅
Now I enjoy listening to it!!

My favourite novel
I loved this book, so evocative of the countryside and of the personalities of the different characters. A perfect last work of this author who was able to carry us with her into another world of imagination.
