Publisher's Summary
Someone is misusing Max Brandon’s name - resulting in bills for services he never ordered and goods he did not buy. For reasons he can't begin to guess, he has become the victim of some unknown person's campaign of persecution.
When the games move closer to home, almost forcing him to fight a duel...more particularly, when they draw in Frances Pendleton, a lady he never expected to see again...Max vows to catch the man behind them, no matter what the cost.
The result is a haphazard chase involving ruined abbeys, a hunt for hermits, a grotesque portrait...and a love story which, but for this odd trick of fate, might never have been given a second chance.

Lovely
Yet another great story by Ms Riley.
Loved the plot and all the twists. She writes a very descriptive book, which transports you to the time and places the characters visit.
As usual the reading by Alex Wyndham brings this book to life.
Can’t wait for the next book

Loved it; superbly engrossing story!
Well narrated by Alex Wyndham - he improves each time he renders a Stella Riley novel. (I have occasionally disagreed with some of his characterizations, but these were excellent) so enjoy. And Stella has delivered a brilliant, intriguing story, enhanced by the development of minor cast members from her Rockliffe series and carrying on details from her R&C series as well. (Also sneaking in a preview of major characters for projected novels). Clever lady. This story is set almost entirely in
northern England and the Scottish Borders and gives a passing reference to their history and local landmarks. Just a bit different.
