About this listen

Given a chance at immortality, can Wu Ying grasp the fleeting opportunity? Long Wu Ying never expected to join a Sect or become a real cultivator. His days were spent studying, planting rice on the family farm and spending time with his friends. Fate, however, has different plans for Wu Ying and when the army arrives at his village, he and many other members of the village are conscripted.

Given the opportunity to join the Verdant Green Waters Sect, Wu Ying must decide between his pedestrian, common life and the exciting, blood soaked life of a cultivator. Join Wu Ying as he takes his first step on his Thousand Li journey to become an immortal cultivator. The First Step is the first novel in A Thousand Li series, a book on cultivation, immortals, wondrous martial art styles and spirit beasts and will be loved by wuxia and xianxia fans. The First Step is written by Tao Wong, the bestselling scifi and fantasy LitRPG author of the System Apocalypse, Adventures on Brad and the Hidden Wishes.

Critic Reviews

“A Thousand Li is one of the best English-language cultivation series out there, written with obvious love for the genre. If you’ve heard about cultivation but don’t know where to begin, this is a great place to start.” —Will Wight, New York Times Best-Selling Author of the Cradle series

Brilliant narration and fantastic writing.

Cultivation that feels earned, storytelling that grabs attention and holds it tightly. A delight to experience.

Awesome

This novel encompasses everything I expect from the title. It allows me to indulge some of my favourite tropes. As always, a masterful narration by Travis Baldree.

Mostly good

I’m enjoying the book and will be buying the next. I just don’t like how the MC is a bit of a wet noodle whipping boy, he always turns the other cheek. I understand why but it’s a bit difficult to be sympathetic for a weak person without a backbone, which it’s bizarre because in anything else he is determined and strong willed

certainly taking steps

I enjoyed the little details and terminology used as the story developed, steady progress in story and character development. A true character that undergoes growth and not everything is just given to the character

So far it’s pretty generic

It’s not bad, but so far it’s really generic as far as cultivation novels go

the Mc’s whole personality can be summed up with “I work hard and am humble”, with 1 exception.

The cultivation is so far only an aesthetic thing with no significant effects as of yet.

The combat seems to be all about the weapons, in that it’s all about finding deeper meaning in your weapon and movements rather than any supernatural powers as of yet

The Mc can defeat people 3 ranks higher than himself by sacrificing grace and fighting tooth and nail. Seems weird to me that other people focus on grace and elegance so much that it impairs their combat ability.

If you’re not the Mc’s friend then you’re likely to be an aggravating dick or outright evil, no in between. The usual young master
