About this listen
Angels walk among us, but so do other unearthly beings in this brand-new series by the internationally best-selling author of the Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series.
Meet Detective Zaniel Havelock. A man who can talk to angels.
As an angel speaker, Zaniel once used his special gift to serve both the celestial beings and his fellow humans. But a terrible betrayal forced him to abandon that life. Now he's a cop working in the City of Angels.
But where angels walk among us, so do demons. And there's no question that there's evil at work when Zaniel is called to the murder scene of a college student. But is this just evil that one human being can do to another, or something more? When demonic possession is a possibility, even angelic protection can only go so far.
The race is on to stop the killer before he finds his next victim. But Zaniel is facing his own very personal demons and the past he never truly left behind....

"Wow! [This audiobook] has it all - a terrific new character, devious twists, plenty of action and one hell of an ending." (Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling author of Ink and Rage)

Struggled with the story and the narrator
Reading my first Anita Blake novel 20 years ago blew my mind! So I really wanted to love this new series by Laurell K. Hamilton. But for me, it was a struggle all the way through. I get that there has to be some world building so explaining and describing things comes with the territory and that was okay. The ideas behind religion and magic were interesting, but the story didn't grab or get exciting. I wasn't eager to listen to the book to find out what's going to happen next. The main character fell a bit flat and I found him going on and on about his marriage issues pretty tedious. It was almost like Laurell needed to work some things out through her pages. It also didn't help that I wasn't a fan of the narrator's voice-but that's a personal preference. Ive heard his voice before. A bit too nasally for me. The main character was meant to be a good looking guy but I just couldnt match it with the voice! I would be interested to see if a book 2 gets better but don't think I want to risk a credit to find out. Sorry Laurell, but I read to escape real life issues, I don't want to be thrown deep into someone relationship issues from the get go! I want bullets and magic and kicking ass!
